How to understand a sunscreen label?
How to read a sunscreen label?
With unpronounceable filter names and sometimes vague promises, reading a sunscreen label can quickly become a headache. At Monjour, we've decided to guide you step by step so you can confidently understand what you're applying to your skin.
Why we protect ourselves from the sun
The sun is made up of ultraviolet rays (the famous UV rays) which, in high doses, can damage our skin.
-
UVB rays (around 5% of UV rays) are the best known: they are what cause sunburn .
-
UVA rays (95% of UV rays) penetrate deeper into the skin. They cannot be seen or felt... but contribute to skin aging and long-term cellular damage .
This is why it is so important to opt for broad-spectrum protection , which acts against both UVB and UVA rays.

The SPF: A small number that says a lot
On the bottle of our Monjour Sun Spray , you will see an SPF index , followed by a number: 30, 50… This Sun Protection Factor indicates how long you can expose yourself to the sun without burning, compared to unprotected skin.
For example, an SPF 50+ blocks more than 98% of UVB rays . But be careful, it does not protect against UVA rays, unless the "UVA" logo surrounded by a circle is also present: this is our guarantee of complete protection .
What lies behind complicated words
In the list of ingredients, we find the famous sunscreens . These are the ones that act as a shield against UV rays. There are two types:
-
Mineral filters ( such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) act like small mirrors: they reflect UV rays. But they sometimes leave a white film on the skin.
-
Organic filters absorb UV rays and transform them into harmless heat. They are more discreet, lighter, and allow invisible application , even on sensitive skin.
The filters chosen for our Monjour Sun Spray
Because you deserve the best, we have selected new generation organic filters , recognized for their high tolerance and proven effectiveness . Here is their profile:

Tinosorb® S (Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine)
